One of the best things I’ve experience during this past year and a half is having my Saturday and Sunday mornings back. The amount of times I’ve wasted a morning or even an entire day following a night of not taking care of my body is slightly embarrassing. I would dread this part of my week. Now, it’s becoming the time I cherish the most.
Having something to look forward the next day is the most effective way I have found to alleviate that feeling of “FOMO” that tends to come with embarking on a sober night out . This can be anything from yoga, a quick run, or something as simple as grabbing a cup of coffee from a new spot you’ve been meaning to check out. It doesn’t have to be a big extravagant plan, but being able to say “hey I’m doing blank tomorrow morning” has allowed me to Irish Exit knowing the best part of my weekend is still to come.
Reflecting on this whole experience, I feel like being consistently in a better state both mentally and physically has made me feel like I have the time to pursue interests that I put off in the past. I’ve also noticed having the energy and commitment to make plans throughout the week and weekend to a greater extend that I ever have in my adult life. Not drinking is not sacrificing a social life.
Tyler Childers said it best in a recent interview that the greatest gift in not drinking is the time that you get back in life, and I plan to use that time to its fullest extent.
